The comments come as Israel has recently stepped up threats of carrying out a strike against Iran’s nuclear energy facilities.
The threats are based on the unfounded claims that the nuclear energy activities of the Islamic Republic include a military component.
Iranian officials have rejected the allegations, and have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn with the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement from Idaho to shed more light on the issue.
He is joined by Caleb Maupin with the International Action Center from New York and author and political scientist Kaveh Afrasiabi from Boston.
What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Mark Glenn, let me come to you now with what Netanyahu has said about Israel that Israel’s a symbol of modernity and insulted other Arab Muslim nations in the Middle East in its description as saying “symbols of medievalism” because they protested insults to the prophet of Islam by a US made film that by some accounts many are saying that Israel perhaps had something to do with its production. Is Israel a symbol of modernity?
Glenn: No, I tend to agree with comments that Israel is a backward feudal … [entity] and only a backward feudal … [entity] with leaders such as Netanyahu and company come up with such ridiculous statements such as ‘Israel being on the cutting edge of freedom and democracy’ and ‘Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.’
Really I think what it conveys more than anything else is that we are dealing with people on a political scale who are mentally ill. They are no different than schizophrenic patients who are being treated, who suffer from delusions of grandeur, persecution complex and who are willing to engage not just in verbal rhetoric but indeed in violent actions in order to deal with these delusions of grandeur and paranoid delusions that they are bearing.
This is a very dangerous position that the world is in right now. These people, Netanyahu and company and those who support him and his delusions really should be for the sake of the rest of humanity locked up in a padded room where they can do neither damage to themselves nor damage to the civilized world.
And I think that the statements on the part of the honorable president of Iran, Ahmadinejad that it [Israel] is a feudal … [entity] is exactly correct where you have a two-tiered system, you have individuals who sit at the top, who wield immense power and oppression against those who sit under them and who do so without any kind of regard for the humanity of others or for the rule of law.
Press TV: Mark Glenn, let’s talk about what the US president has said: Barack Obama accused Iran of supporting terrorism at his UN speech. This is meanwhile Washington to have just taken the Iranian Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) off the US state department’s list of terrorist organizations.
Given Washington’s choice of good and bad terrorists how dangerous can this be when the United States itself is supporting terrorism while it accuses others of supporting terrorism? We can’t forget that MKO has killed up to 17,000 Iranians of which the United States is alleged to be in one shape or another in support of.
Glenn: Absolutely and let’s not forget that the United States is supporting the MEK in the form of very sophisticated military training as reported by Seymour Hersh, a very well-respected journalist in the United States. Some of these MEK terrorists are receiving training out in the desert in Nevada so that these terrorists can then go out into the world or possibly even within the confines of the United States and put these new tricks that they have learned against innocent people. After all this is what terrorists do, they employ violence against people for political gain.
So the fact that the president and the rest of the Obama administration will be accusing Iran of terrorism, I mean how many American scientists have been assassinated in the last five years? How many Israeli scientists or scientists from the left have been killed by Iran in the last five years? None; however on the other hand we have Iranian scientists who are being killed by Israel in the United States working in collusion with each other. That’s not to say all the other acts of terrorism or sabotage that have taken place that we have not been able to hear about because the information has been strategically kept from public view.
So again this is very symptomatic and very demonstrative of feudal type mentality, a feudal type system and really a complete disregard for civilized norms of morality or truth or anything like that when you have people accusing Iran who has done nothing. Iran has not threatened to bring harm to anyone. All Iran has said is leave us alone. We are not going to be Palestinians; we are not going to be Iraqis, we are not going to be Afghanis, you are not going to do to our country and to our people what you have done to others and they have threatened the use of justifiable violence in defense of those rights.
So the fact that Obama or anybody else, Netanyahu, any of these other individuals would go before the world body and to make these outrageous claims really again demonstrates the seriousness and the dangerousness of the times that we’re living in today when world leaders can come forward and say things like that with impunity and with no fear that there is going to be any kind of informational backlash against them. I mean to come forth and say things like this is akin to saying that the earth is flat and of course the intelligentsia is saying nothing against that.
Press TV: Mark Glenn, Iran’s president, I’ve made references to some of the statements he has made but your take on what he has said regarding this new world order. He has said this time and again when he talks about a new world order he has attributed many different reasons for this to be a requirement at this stage, I mean we can look around the world, starting with what occurred in North Africa and Middle East nations to Europe now and even within the United States, with all the protests that are going on.
Do you think that this new world order is something that the international community is grasping? We’re seeing obviously financial crises as an example ripping apart different nations from Europe to the United States and of course what has occurred in the landscape of the Middle East.
Glenn: Well, I had the honor and the privilege Tuesday night to sit in the company of President Ahmadenijad and hear the comments that he made in front of the UN the previous night before the speech and I must say that I was rather moved by what he said because he is exactly correct:
We, the civilized world is going over the cliff here as a result of the disproportionate amount of control that one of the guests here mentioned that could be control of capital, the control of corporate money over nations, the civilized society is about to undo thousands of years of progress because a handful amount of people who, as I said, possess a disproportionate amount of power over human affairs are running civilization into the ground and so yes it’s not just the president of Iran who is calling for this new order.
Yes, there are nations around the world and I would go so far as to say that even the Western nation, these leaders recognize where this is all headed. The problem is that you have as one of the guests here indicated you have a small, very well-organized group of individuals who have control not just over money and corporate power but also control over the media and they have got these world leaders by the throat and are forcing these world leaders to adopt certain political policies that are even destroying their own countries.
And so yes I do believe that there is this awareness now around the world, the frightening thing is, as I said, you have these world leaders who even though they may not say so publicly, they understand privately that their countries are going up in flames but there is little that they can do about this because of the amount of control that this tiny group of well-organized individuals holds over the political processes of these countries.
So at this point I think that we’re at a point in history where it’s a ‘wait-and-see’ game because honestly, we’re dealing with irrational people here. There is no telling what Netanyahu will do. We know what he is capable of doing. The man is a vampire. He is surrounded by vampires who have to feed off of the blood of innocent people and they are willing to go to any length necessary in order to get that blood that they so crave even if it means detonating a nuclear weapon within a Western country or even within the United States itself in order to blame this on Iran and to get this war started.
So again it’s a very dangerous period for human history, for the human race we have to be vigilant and speaking out against these things because at the end of the day this is probably the only thing that we can do to forestall what looks like it is going to be a certain disaster if indeed it’s not too late already.
